We started Matthew on solids this week - rice cereal to start (oatmeal comes next!). He "got it" pretty quickly - he understands he needs to open his mouth chew a little. Although he's a little messy, he's still neater than his dad is!
Matthew likes to teach Ish how to box - he's always having him do upper cuts and jabs. The baby LOVES it - always calms him down and makes him laugh. On this particular day Matthew held the baby out towards me (as if Ish was boxing me) - it was so cute, I took a ton of pictures, but this picture is PRICELESS!!!
We are breaking Ish out of the swaddle and into the sleepsack. So far, so good. The only problem is that he tends to scratch at his face when he sleeps (and I mean really dig into his skin), so we have to put socks over his hands to keep him from hurting himself. The good thing about the sleepsack is that his arms are free to play with his crib toy (which he loves!). Usually the only way I know he's awake in there in the morning is when I hear the noises of the toy. He'll happily play by himself for a while before demanding to be taken out. Last night he slept from 9-5:30 and this is how I found him when I went in to check on him this morning (after hearing him play with his toy).
We are trying to get Matthew to stop sucking so hard on his hands and start sucking on one of the hundred teething rings and toys we have for him. One of which is Mr. Polar Bear. He's a soft little bear with huge hands - Matthew so far has put Mr. Bear's nose, face, and legs in his mouth, completely ignoring the teething surface on Mr. Bear's hand. Now Mr. Polar Bear is his buddy. I think we need to try a new toy!
Thank you for coming to visit me this weekend - I had lots of fun grabbing your hair! Mommy cut her hair and always puts it in a ponytail now, so I don't get to play with hers (no fair!). I also like that you held me and hugged me and kissed me a lot (my three favorite things!). Mommy told me to say thank you for the pretty shiny presents you brought me (even though I'm not allowed to touch them just yet, mommy says she will let me use them soon).
Mommy says you live in a place called England and that it's much farther away than grandma's house so you might not get to visit me often - what's that about??!!! I hope you will be able to come to my first birthday party in September. From what I'm told there will be this thing called "cake" there!
That's all for now - I'm off to have a bottle and fight my sleep (naps are for suckers!).
Matthew's new obsession is bouncing - he just has a grand old time jumping up and down and making the lights flash and the animals make noises. The great thing is that it uses up all his energy and he naps great after a bouncing session. This particular session was rather exhausting - he actually fell asleep IN THE BOUNCER! Crazy baby.
Married to my best friend, mom to a sweet boy we call Ish and another baby boy we call Noah Bear. Waiting for the Mets to reach another World Series, the mortgage to be paid off and for at least one of my kids to sleep past 6AM!
